About

I’m a theatre maker, director and facilitator based in the North East of England.

As a maker I create new, intimate theatre that is contemporary, down-to-earth and plays with form, often exploring themes of class and sexuality.

As a director I work in new-writing, supporting writers in the dramaturgical process from the earliest concept of an idea.

As a facilitator I specialise in work with children and young people. I’ve collaborated with organisations including Live Youth Theatre, Northern Stage Young Company, Seven Stories Centre for Children’s Books, St Oswald’s Children’s Hospice, North Tyneside Young Carers and Northumbria University.

I also perform as a singer-songwriter.

About

The following four values guide my practice, as a theatre maker, director and facilitator.

Collaboration

My background is in facilitation and applied theatre and this influences my directing and making style. Collaboration is at the heart of all aspects of my work.

Generosity

Of time, resource and spirit. To me this means:

none-competitiveness, honesty, willingness to challenge things you believe to be wrong, offering mentoring and help to others, and always paying artists fairly.

Edgy vs. down-to-earth

I aim to create work that is contemporary and risk taking as well as down-to-earth and unpretentious. These elements can be at odds with each other, but I find the pull between them leads to interesting choices.

Inclusivity

For artists, arts professionals and audiences.

Because the theatre industry (and indeed the world) isn't equal or fair, and we all need to do more about it.
